Another fresh delivery from Hovis and Pepper Creative...

Pepper's recent appointment as a Premier Foods approved design supplier continues with yet another instalment in Hovis' 'Not In My Kitchen' campaign.

As you may have read in our last news update, Pepper have been commissioned by Hovis to design a campaign to promote their new drive for Good Manufacturing Practice.

Hovis Premier Foods designs

This week saw the completion of the final stage in the campaign, a 12-page booklet outlining the key features and serious issues relating to GMP presented in a humorous and informal way. You can take a look at the whole campaign here and see if Pepper's slice of Hovis is worth... toasting.

An education in prospectus design...

Hot off the press is the new Isle of Wight College prospectus for 2011/12 which throws out the rule book and replaces it with something altogether more substantial!

The last month has seen many intense hours of work invested in creating the new prospectus, and the receipt of printed samples last week has convinced us that all the hard work was worth it. The Isle of Wight College has shown an eagerness to adopt different approaches to their marketing in its work with Pepper, and the new document was no exception.

Prospectus design and printing

Out went the usual ingredients of a traditional prospectus and in came stylish print finishes, an unusual format, slick typography and inspirational photography. Initial feedback has been positive, and it's hoped that the new prospectus proves as successful as the College's past campaigns with Pepper. You can find out more about the Isle of Wight College prospectus in our print portfolio here.

First class service for Orient Express

Following a recent re-brand, Orient Express approached Pepper to create a labelling scheme and product visuals for a new range of high-end retail merchandise.

The new range features twelve products, with each one requiring individual consideration of material finishes and packaging requirements. The exclusive values of the Orient Express brand needed to be reflected throughout the new range which will be sold at exclusive Orient Express boutiques around the world, and we're pleased that once again Pepper's creative work will have a global audience.

Design worth torquing about for Datum

Simplifying complex technical instructions for the application of torque measuring equipment might seem a daunting task, but Pepper Creative have managed to fulfil the brief in style.

Working on a major new product development for Castrol, and venturing into new global markets, highlighted a need for Datum to re-evaluate their sales material. A prime objective identified was the need for clear and concise handbooks to accompany their products.

Datum firstly tasked Pepper with understanding the fundamentals of the torque measuring process by giving practical hands-on demonstrations to the Pepper team. This provided Pepper with a clear understanding of the process, and gave us a foundation from which we could distill a series of simple and easy to use individual illustrations and accompanying text.

It's hoped that the resulting documents will ensure that Datum's processes are clear wherever in the world the end-user will be. The final edition of the handbook has already received high praise from BP who are using this handbook as a benchmark for how other suppliers should present their information. Pepper are well underway with the remaining handbooks and are looking forward to designing a new Datum website for launch early in 2011.

Island Views at the click of a button

Island View Holidays offer potential Island visitors an unrivalled range of holiday and short break options. The new website created by Pepper features all five of Island View's parks, with comprehensive facilities listings as well as an availability checker and a new online booking system. Graphic design studio news

Topping the pie charts

The Pepper studio will once again be expanding their collective waistline in an effort to review and rate as many different brands of everyone’s favourite festive sweetmeat as possible before the Christmas period ends, or medical problems relating to over-indulgence intervene.

Detailed ratings and results will be Tweeted in the run up to Christmas, with no doubt an extremely elegant but ultimately pointless information graphic, currently much loved by designers, produced at the end of the process.

Pepper's Happy Holly-days...

Eat too much, drink too much, sleep alot - the spirit of the festive season does not pass Pepper by. We're closed for our Christmas break on Thursday 23rd December, and will be back in the office to recuperate on Tuesday 4th January. If we don't see you before then everyone at Pepper Creative wishes you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Pepper's Top Five Festive Favourites (and a Turntable Turkey...)

1. "Fairytale of New York" (The Pogues and Kirsty McColl) The only Christmas song to contain the words "bum", "punk", "slut on junk", "scumbag", "maggot" and "cheap lousy faggot" - and all the better for it.

2. "Troika" from Lieutenant Kije (Sergei Prokofiev) This Russian guy really captures the spirit of Christmas, but amazingly never had a Christmas Number One...

3. "I Believe in Father Christmas" (Greg Lake) A real lump-in-the-throat christmas cracker, but Prokofiev should have sued.

4. "Christmas Wrapping" (The Waitresses) Begins with "Bah, humbug" and ends with "Merry Christmas" - lyrical gold. Once heard, constantly hummed - all year round...

5. "Please Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)" (John Denver) Seamlessly combines domestic violence with Christmas cheer over a Country & Western backing. Yes, really. You'll need a drink after this one.

The Dog's
"12 Days Of Christmas"

Pepper Creative's mascot keeps himself busy throughout the year, but Christmas is a time for extra mischief. Kirsty documented events as they unfolded...

On the twelve days
of Christmas
Pepper gave to me:

  • The santa from the
    Christmas tree
  • Two cracked baubles
  • Three empty mince pie cases
  • Four broken candles
  • Five chewed-up stockings
  • Six feet of soggy ribbon
  • Seven scraps of ripped wrapping paper
  • Eight tiny reindeer legs
  • My wreath in nine pieces
  • Ten Christmas cards
    I'd forgot to post
  • Eleven unwrapped presents from the tree

On the twelfth day
of Christmas
Pepper gave to me:

  • A dozen Pepper licks and kisses - and I forgot all about the other eleven days!

    Free presents this Christmas...

Pepper have updated their FREE STUFF section to include a few desktops to get you in the festive mood. Just don’t expect the usual Christmas fayre...
